P.S. Writing Back

Branding, Print Design, 4 x 6 in Postcards

P.S. Writing Back transforms a collection of letters received from a friend over the course of 18+ years. Written and drawn in various sizes and media, the original items of this collection demonstrate the selflessness of a true friend — and the significance of a handmade, handwritten or hand drawn gift. Missing from the original collection is the moment in which each of these items were received. Was the recipient grateful, touched, or unphased? Did she reply often or even at all? Transforming the original pieces into something new, the recipient finally replies.

The original collection of hand drawn gifts were an eccentric mix of colors, styles and materials. In an effort to transform these items into a more uniformed display, I chose a limited color palette of four colors inspired by colors from the original pieces. I also chose to have a similar formula for each postcard — one portion of the original piece combined with type in the typeface Circular. The postcards are accompanied with a pamphlet that reveals the title, original media, and a description for each of the postcards.
